NOTE:
READ THE FOOTNOTES BELOW VERY CAREFULLY. PARENTS AND STUDENTS SHOULD
CONTACT THE PUPIL PERSONNEL SERVICES OFFICE WITH ANY QUESTIONS
REGARDING GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS.
- An
appropriate level of English Literature & Composition I, II, and III must be successfully completed. Beginning with the
class of 2010, English Literature & Composition IV must also be successfully completed.
- One
credit related to computer technology may be used to satisfy
one of the required mathematics requirements.
- Students
must successfully complete math courses through Geometry beginning
with the class of 2008.
- Satisfies
the State of Illinois mandates as to Physical Education, Health
Education, and Driver Education & Safety. Health Education is incorporated in Physical Education at the 9th grade.
Driver Education & Safety with thirty clock hours of classroom, four hours of range, and four hours
of BTW is incorporated in Physical Education at the 10th grade.
Physical Education is required of all students unless exempt
for medical reasons or the provisions of P.A. 84-126 (S.B. 730).
- Satisfies
the State of Illinois mandates regarding United States History.
- Satisfies
the State of Illinois mandates regarding the United States and
Illinois Constitutions, citizenships, and conservation education.
- The
Consumer Education state mandate is waived for students who pass
the Illinois State Board of Education Consumer Education Proficiency
Examination. However, credit is not awarded by passing the proficiency
examination.
- Beginning
with the Class of 2008 students must take a reading course during
the freshman year or entry-level year.
- Students
who earn 19 or more credits in the core academic areas (English,
world languages, math, science, and social sciences) are required
to earn 1/2 credit in fine arts; or,
- Students
who meet state university academic admissions standards (15 or
more credits in a prescribed core academic program) and 4-1/2
or more credits in career and technical education are required
to earn 1/2 credit in fine arts.
- Students
who earn 19 or more credits in the core academic areas (English,
foreign language, math, science, and social sciences) are required
to earn only 1/2 credit in career and technical education; or
- Students
who meet state university academic admissions standards (15 or
more credits in a prescribed core academic program) and 4-1/2
or more credits in fine arts are required to earn 1/2 credit
in career and technical education.
- These
graduation requirements DO NOT apply to students who entered
the 9th grade in 1995-96 and prior school years, or to students
whose program of study is determined by an Individualized Education
Program (IEP). Students who entered before the Class of 2007,
contact the PPS department for graduation requirements.
- These
are general graduation requirements. For specific departmental
requirements, please refer to course descriptions listed in this
handbook. Department requirements should be closely followed,
exceptions may be made on an individual basis only if a hardship
exists.
- PSAE
must be taken in order to receive a Lincoln-Way High School diploma
and to participate in graduation ceremonies.
