LWE Griffins Softball 2018 Philosophy

Hitting Philosophy
  • Load (negative motion) / Do not lock front leg
  • Shoulders level
  • Lead elbow to the ball
  • Core to knees – everything sinks
  • Head stays perfectly still
  • Body behind the ball
  • Rhythm, timing and dynamic balance
  • “Throw” the bat at the pitcher – keep it going to the pitcher for as long as you can
  • Square up to contact not the pitcher
  • Finish swing at same level as the ball (barrel of the bat matches the plane of shoulders)
  • Know the signs
Bunting Philosophy
    Sacrifice

  • Stand in the front of the box
  • Square on the pitcher’s first movement
  • Bunt strikes
  • Ball before base – the job of the hitter is to advance the runner, therefore they must do their job and place the bunt down before running
  • Know the signs

  • Bunt for a Hit

  • The batter is to bunt the ball for a hit
  • The batter should only bunt the ball if it is a strike
  • Conceal the bunt for as long as the hitter can
  • Know the signs

  • Suicide

  • Stand in the front of the box
  • The batter must bunt the ball, regardless of where it is thrown
  • The runner is stealing home!
  • Know the signs
