Stage 1: Desired Results

Understandings

(Grammar)  Students will understand how to fix and avoid run-ons and fragments, differentiate between phrases and clauses, and use simple, compound, and complex sentences.

(Vocabulary)  Students will develop strategies to master vocabulary words.

Knowledge & Skill

What are the minimal competencies in grammar for all L-W students?
How do grammatical skills reinforce and improve students' writing and speaking?
How do students apply a formalized vocabulary study to their general study of English?

(GR)  Run-ons, fragments, phrases, clauses, and sentence types.
Agreement of both subject-verb and pronoun-antecedent.
Begin sentence combining.
Introduce/apply Minimum Competency list.

(Voc)  Pronunciation, synonyms and antonyms, sentence completions

Stage 2: Assessment Evidence

(Grammar) - writing assessments, apply application of sentence structures to variety of sentence

(Vocabulary) - objective chapter tests and cumulative final exam

review devices for cumulative tests
Units 1-6 tests in semester one; units 7-15 in semester two.
