Stage 1: Desired Results

Understandings

(Grammar)  Students will understand how to fix and avoid run-ons and fragments, differentiate between phrases and clauses, and use simple, compound, and complex sentences.

(Vocabulary)  Students will develop strategies to master vocabulary words.

What are the minimal competencies in grammar for all L-W students?
How do grammatical skills reinforce and improve students' writing and speaking?
How do students apply a formalized vocabulary study to their general study of English?

(GR)  Run-ons, fragments, phrases, clauses, and sentence types.  Agreement of both subject-verb and pronoun-antecedent.  Continue sentence combining.  Active & passive voice.  Continue student accountability for Minimum Competency list.
Clarity, conciseness, and variety in writing.

(Voc)  Pronunciation, synonyms and antonyms, sentence completions, analogies, entry and related words, roots.
