Stage 1: Desired Results

Understandings

(Grammar)  Students will understand how to fix and avoid run-ons and fragments, differentiate between phrases and clauses, and use simple, compound, and complex sentences.

(Vocabulary)  Students will develop strategies to master vocabulary words.

Knowledge & Skill

What are the minimal competencies in grammar for all L-W students?
How do grammatical skills reinforce and improve students' writing and speaking?
How do students apply a formalized vocabulary study to their general study of English?

(GR)  Demonstrate mastery of all grammar rules.
Complete individual prescriptive work as needed.

(Voc)  Pronunciation, synonyms and antonyms, sentence completions, analogies.  Application to written work.
