Lincoln-Way Central club hosts “Arrive Alive” program for students

The Lincoln-Way Central Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) will present ‘Arrive Alive’ program for all Lincoln-Way Central students on Wednesday, February 17 at 6:00 pm in the field house and Rosenquist Theater. ‘Arrive Alive’ is of the Operation Teen Safe Driving Program.

The event will feature a panel of five Will County judges presenting the program, “7 Reasons to Leave a Party” in the Rosenquist Theater. This program was presented at Lincoln-Way West earlier this year. The five judges include: Judge Bobbi Petrungaro, Judge Brian Barrett, Judge Michael Powers, Judge Bennett Braun, and Judge Raymond Nash.

“The presentation is peppered with true stories of teens that made wrong decisions. Teens need to know the personal and legal consequences of drinking and driving, taking drugs and having underage sex,” says Judge Petrungaro. “And we hope to make parents more aware of the judges’ attempt at preventative law.”

This event is for students and their parents. We hope they will be able to attend this event and learn why it is important to drive safe, drive smart and ‘Arrive Alive’, said Carrie Ann Welsh, president of SADD and a senior at Lincoln-Way Central.

Also included in the event is a Safe Driving Fair in Central’s field house which includes: 2 large simulators that will demonstrate the effects on the body from being involved in a front impact and roll-over crash, several table-top simulators that show the hazards of speeding, and driving while texting; “drunk goggles” bozo buckets games; ‘Arrive Alive’ jeopardy for a chance to win prizes and much more.

A permission form will have to be signed by a responsible adult for anyone to try out the Seat Belt Convincer Demonstration Devise, noted Katie Bingham, teacher sponsor of SADD.

“I have personally lost high school friends because of a car accident. Speeding, drinking and driving, texting, cell phone use, falling asleep at the wheel are all hazards teens need to be aware of as they drive. We don’t want that to happen to any of our students,” stated Katie Bingham.
