L-W East/North to host baseball clinic for coaches

Baseball coaches and parents of youth baseball players are invited to attend one of two free coaching clinics at Lincoln-Way East and Lincoln-Way North high schools.

The clinics, which will be led by baseball coaches from the high schools, will offer tips on how to teach kids how to hit, pitch and field. They also will discuss practice design, ideas for age-appropriate drills and how to diagnose problems in players.

The goal is to provide continuity in coaching styles and to assist student athletes as they grow.

“I really love meeting the involved parents from the community,” said Lincoln-Way North baseball coach Joe Skarbek. “This clinic gives our coaches a chance to show how passionate they are about baseball.”

“This clinic is unique because it has several stations that are interactive,” said Lincoln-Way East baseball coach Paul Babcock. “Feeder program coaches can participate in drills as they are being demonstrated.”

“We have some really experienced coaches in the district and this day really allows them to shine,” added Skarbek. “Plus, winter seems to be almost through when we get to talk about baseball in February.”

Lincoln-Way East coaches have been offering the free clinic each year since 1999. Lincoln-Way North, which opened last school year, is offering the clinic for the second time.

The coaching clinics are scheduled for the following times:

  • 8 a.m.-noon Jan. 30, Lincoln-Way East main gym, 201 Colorado Ave., Frankfort
  • 8 a.m.-noon Feb. 20, Lincoln-Way North High School field house, 19900 S. Harlem Ave., Frankfort

Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. each day. There is no need to pre-register. Interested coaches and parents may simply show up for either session.
