L-W North cheerleaders make history.

The 2009-2010 Lincoln-Way North cheerleading squad has made school history.

O On Saturday, Jan. 30, the 20-member squad tied for 1st at the IHSA competitive cheerleading sectionals, becoming the school’s first-ever sectional champions.

“Our girls put everything they had on that floor and performed the best we have ever seen,” said head coach Jaime Robison. “We are so excited and proud of our girls for their hard work this season that words can’t even describe how happy we are. Even our captains, Natalee Torres, Haley DiVenti and Maggie Pender said, `We wanted state so bad, so we cheered from the heart not our heads and boy did that make a difference.’ ”

The team now advances to the IHSA state series, which will be held Friday, Feb. 5 at U.S. Cellular Coliseum at Illinois State University in Bloomington.

It will face 24 other large teams, including Bradley-Bourbonnais, which tied with North for 1st place at the cheerleading sectionals on Saturday with a score of 91.78.

Also at the state meet will be Lincoln-Way East’s cheerleading squad, which placed 5th at the cheerleading sectionals.

Lincoln-Way North is scheduled to perform at 4:15 p.m. Friday while Lincoln-Way East is scheduled to perform at 5:20 p.m.
