The Lincoln-Way West Student Council hosted a fundraiser to benefit the citizens of Haiti. The fundraiser was called “Change for Haiti” and West students raised a total of over $567.43.
Each class and the staff were given a 5-gallon water jug for the collection of pennies and silver change. The 5-gallon jugs were placed on tables during the lunch hours in the cafeteria. Student Council members volunteered at the tables to collect the donations. The group with the highest amount donated was the junior class. The funds donated were given to the American Red Cross in the name of Lincoln-Way West.
“In addition to the change drive, the students were able to help the relief effort by buying a ticket to the Snowflake Soiree dance last Saturday. The Snowflake Soiree was $10 per student, and was held in the main gym at West. One dollar from every ticket sold was also donated to help the people of Haiti. We had over 350 students attend the dance. The students of West donated a total of $567.43, a great job,” exclaimed Tim Barry, Student Council teacher sponsor and math teacher.
