Lincoln-Way West Announces Winter Play Cast

The Theatre Company of Lincoln-Way West is pleased to announce the cast of our winter play, Atalanta, a romantic comic interpretation of a famous Greek myth by playwright Thomas J. Hatton.

The play’s heroine, Atalanta, is played by freshman Samantha Gerencher. The well-intentioned (but misguided) King Oeneus is played by freshman Luke Scalone. His wife, Queen Althea, is played by sophomore Danielle Doll. Junior Ashley Eller is Agatha, overbearing and opinionated mother-in-law of King Oeneus. The winsome Princess Serendipity is played by freshman Katie Kelly, and Freshman Evan Kirkeeng plays Serendipity’s poet sweetheart, Dimitrius.

“The play takes place in ancient Greece, and King Oeneus has a problem. A savage boar is rampaging through his little kingdom, destroying the crops and killing the peasants. The king offers his beautiful daughter Serendipity and half his kingdom to any man who can rid him of this pest. It seems like the perfect plan until the maiden Atalanta insists on entering the boar hunt herself. Naturally, the men of the kingdom oppose her fledgling attempt at feminism. Undeterred, Atalanta responds by assembling a group of girls who threaten to picket the palace unless Atalanta is given a fair chance. Discover how Atalanta wins and loses and then wins again in this delightful comedy which uses a classic legend to deal with some very modern issues,” states Lea LaCross, teacher sponsor and play producer.

Additional cast members are: Zach Richmond, Christopher Jones, Justin Thrall, Madeline Franzen, Amber Frederiksen, Kathleen Creed, Matt Shipanik.

Becky Bradshaw is the student director and Violet Lyons is the understudy. Lauren Mieteiski, teacher sponsor, is the play director.

Performances of Atalanta will be Friday, February 12 and Saturday, February 13 at 7:00 p.m. in the Lincoln-Way West Fine Arts Center. Tickets will be $5 at the door. The public is welcome.
