Monday, October 1, 2012

The Lincoln-Way West High School and Lincoln-Way North High School football Friday night match-up game on September 21was also a successful community night. The Warrior's senior football players and cheerleaders participated in two special events before the game. The West Warriors won the game against North 16-13.

The West Warrior cheerleaders walked among the crowd asking for donations of loose change to raise money for the Cancer Support Center of Mokena. This is the second year the West cheerleaders have participated in the Coins for Cancer program sponsored by the Cancer Support Center.

"We managed to raise $409 in one night! We are very grateful to all who donated and this is proof that small change can make a big difference," noted Sarah Sabo, West head cheerleading coach and Family Consumer Sciences teacher.

In addition, West senior football players recognized their favorite faculty/staff members at the home football game against Lincoln-Way North. Each player presented his favorite teacher/staff member with his football jersey to wear all day and invited them to attend the varsity football game that night and be recognized.

"This is a great night for Lincoln-Way West. Our cheerleaders helping to raise money to fight cancer, and the faculty recognition night is in appreciation for the positive impact the adults have made in the athletes' lives during their high school years," said Dr. Monica Schmitt, principal.
