LW Central Mathletes host 4th Conference meet

The Lincoln-Way Central Mathletes hosted their fourth conference meet in December with Junior Jana Mudrock and sophomore Maddie McLaughlin earning a first place finish in their oral competition on the senior topic of Taxicab Geometry scoring 48 out of 50 points.

The Knights earned a second place with 572 points to Lockport High School's 591 points. Earning third place was Lincoln-Way West with 551 points.

"The team has a lot of ambitious sophomores and juniors who have been competing above their level all season," noted Lisa Park, Head Mathletes Coach and mathematics teacher at Lincoln-Way Central.

Other Knights placing first were the senior Trig Equations team of Wyatt Blatti, Nick Fazzini, Sean McDonald, Andy Munch, Billy Munch and Andrew VanderSchaaf. The junior Right Triangle team posted a perfect 50 with Michelle Dundek, Tony Kestel, Lisa Meister, Jana Mudrock, Joe Onesto, Beth Senese, Harleigh Bailey, Dennis Kilcoyne, Liz Klock, Suzie McDaniel, Andy Munch, Lars Torkelson, and Breanna Weiss.
"I think it is great that we are involved in so many activities and we can come together and do so well at math," said sophomore mathlete Nicolette Esparza.

The sophomore Quadratic Equations team placed first with members John Christel, Pat Burke, Nicolette Esparza, Maggie Gonzalez, Maddie McLaughlin, Allison White, Vinnie DeBono, Jacob Fazzini, Sam Fazzini, Alli Frankowski, Grace Gladding, Cassie Machen, Shaun Palgen, Marc Veihl, and Dan Zolecki.

In addition, the freshman Systems of Equations team earned first place with team members: Justine Daugherty, Matt Fleckenstein, Derek Jones, Ronnie Pacheco, Kevin Triner, Jasmine Vega, Ethan Frankowski, and Aaron Pachol. Also the freshman/sophomore group of Priya Patel, Allison White, Justine Daugherty, and Derek Jones earned a first place.

The Knights prepare for their conference finals meet in January.

"I look forward to conference finals to see the results of their hard work," stated Parker.
