Guy Lombardo’s Royal Canadians with Al Pierson
Wednesday, September 23, 2009, 11 AM, $15

Those who look back to the big band era remember Guy Lombardo’s distinctive, recognizable style — the saxophones, the clipped brass phrases, and a vocal styling that immediately identifies the orchestra as his. Countless people remember the tradition of Guy Lombardo with his Royal Canadians playing at New York’s Waldorf Astoria on New Year’s Eve. Since Lombardo’s death in 1977, the once obscure Scottish ballad, Auld Lang Syne, which became universally associated with New Year’s Eve thanks to Lombardo, has continued to be performed by bands throughout the world. Guy Lombardo’s music lives on, with the blessing of the Lombardo family, in the baton of Al Pierson. Al brings the “Sweetest Music This Side of Heaven" back to the prominence it so richly deserves.
