Message from the Superintendent
Welcome to the 2010-2011 school year. I look forward to it with
more excitement than I did my first year of teaching. Rest assured,
we are ready for school to begin. Our staff is in place, all four high
schools are cleaned and polished, and our transportation system is
ready to safely transport your sons and daughters to and from school.
This past summer, we were busy with a few life safety projects.
We replaced an aging section of roof at Lincoln-Way Central and
renovated the main entrances at Lincoln-Way Central and Lincoln-
Way East high schools so visitors are directed to enter a front office
and check in with building personnel before entering the schools.
It’s a security measure that we built into the design plans at Lincoln-
Way North and Lincoln-Way West high schools when those facilities
opened in 2008 and 2009, respectively. We wanted our two older
schools to have the same safety precautions in place.
The work was paid for with Life Safety funds, which were generated
by restructuring bonds from the 2006 and 1998 referendum sales.
The bonds can only be used for life safety, repairs and restoration of
related projects.
Throughout the construction process, all four schools were open for
summer school classes. We had over 1,500 students taking various
courses during three sessions of summer school. The last session
wrapped up July 30. We’re now ready to begin a new year and wish
our students good luck as they make this the best year ever.
