Lincoln-Way East senior quarterback Jonas Williams made Illinois high school football history Friday night, cementing his place among the state’s all-time greats. Williams threw four touchdown passes in the Griffins’ dominant 42–6 victory, breaking the all-time state record for career passing touchdowns.
With 131 career touchdown passes, Williams shattered the previous mark of 127, held jointly by Jordan Roberts of Aurora Christian and Tyler Hutchinson of Greenville. The record-breaking performance adds yet another milestone to a remarkable high school career that has captivated fans across Illinois.
Williams remarked how special it was to celebrate with his team, "It meant a lot to me that the entire team was with me to congratulate me." Williams adds, "It was the greatest moment of my sports career and one of the best moments of my life."
A USC commit, Williams has been a standout for the Griffins, combining elite arm strength, field awareness, and leadership. This season, he’s already passed for over 1,600 yards and 24 touchdowns, leading Lincoln-Way East to one of the most dominant offenses in the state.
“Jonas is not just an incredible athlete—he’s a leader who sets the tone for our entire team,” said Lincoln-Way East head coach Rob Zvonar of Jonas Williams. “He’s worked for every bit of this success.”
As Williams continues his senior season, he has an excellent chance to add yet another record to his resume: the most passing yards in Illinois high school football history.
Congratulations to Jonas Williams and his family on this historic accomplishment—an achievement that will be remembered for years to come in Illinois high school football.
