The Regional Bridge Building Contest took place on Tuesday, January 21, at the Illinois Institute of Technology, and Lincoln-Way students delivered outstanding performances across the board. Leading the way was Lincoln-Way East student Alexa Grove Schneider, who earned first place overall in the competition. With this win, Alexa qualifies to represent Lincoln-Way East at the International Bridge Building Contest in Chicago on April 25.
Alexa’s bridge achieved an efficiency rating of 2133, the highest across both regions. Her structure weighed only 18 grams—about the weight of three nickels—yet supported nearly 40 kilograms (approximately 88 pounds). Efficiency is determined by dividing the load held by the bridge’s mass, meaning Alexa’s bridge held 2,133 times its own weight.
Eleven Lincoln-Way students participated in the regional contest. Congratulations to the following students:
Lincoln-Way Central:
Patrick Ciukaj
Noah Slone
Ethan Ridings
Lincoln-Way East:
Alexa Grove Schneider
Logan Murphy
Madison Stang
Robert Chavez
Lincoln-Way West:
Andrew Villalobos
Nick Dul
Nick Vicario
Ben Enriquez
Students across all Lincoln-Way schools demonstrated exceptional commitment, applying classroom concepts to real-world engineering challenges. Congratulations to all!
