Lincoln-Way East High School officially honored longtime head football coach Rob Zvonar on Friday, October 16, naming the home of Griffin football Coach Rob Zvonar Field.
The recognition celebrates Zvonar's extraordinary contributions to Lincoln-Way East football and the lasting impact he has made on generations of student-athletes during his 26-year tenure as the program's first and only head coach.
Since the school's opening, Zvonar has guided the Griffins to 261 career victories, six IHSA state championship game appearances, and three state championships. Under his leadership, Lincoln-Way East has also captured 19 conference championships while competing in one of Illinois' most competitive football conferences.
Perhaps even more remarkable is the consistency of the program's success. Lincoln-Way East football has qualified for the IHSA playoffs every season in the school's history, a distinction unmatched by any other program in the state.
Zvonar is a member of the Illinois High School Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame, a recipient of the Randy Walker Power of Influence Award, and has been honored with numerous Coach of the Year awards during his career.
While the wins and championships have defined an era of football excellence, Zvonar's greatest legacy extends beyond the field. Nearly 100 Lincoln-Way East players have earned Academic All-State honors during his tenure, reflecting the program's commitment to excellence in the classroom as well as in competition.
Throughout his career, Zvonar has established a culture centered on hard work, preparation, accountability, and character. His influence has helped shape thousands of student-athletes into successful students, teammates, and community members.
During Friday's ceremony, school officials reflected on the lasting impact of Zvonar's leadership and announced that the home of Griffin football will permanently bear his name.
The designation of Coach Rob Zvonar Field ensures that future generations of Griffins will be reminded of the standards of excellence he established and the legacy he leaves behind.
Lincoln-Way East congratulates Coach Zvonar and thanks him for his decades of leadership, dedication, and commitment to the student-athletes and families of the Griffin community. His influence on Lincoln-Way East will continue to be felt for generations to come.
