Our amazing Link Crew leaders welcomed the Class of 2027 with true Knight Pride! During Freshman Orientation our incoming students met new people, got a tour of the building, and learned all about what it means to be a Knight! 🔴⚫

Congrats to the LWC January Student of the Month - Brian Cummins "Brian is a committed and driven individual; he is full of ingenuity and originality. Brian has the communication and social skills to talk to anyone in the classroom. Because of his warm, respectful demeanor, Brian relates to his classmates. Since he takes the time to work with all his peers, he is an essential member of a positive classroom environment. Furthermore, Brian astonishes me with his creativity. When we read Into the Wild, Brian exceeded my expectations for the culminating unit project. He wrote a screen play and performed the script in front of the class with another student. His choices and innovative perspective retold the story in such an intriguing way: he kept everyone’s attention. Brian also presents to the class with ease. His zeal for speaking in front of others engages his peers. He never fails at making us laugh and learn. The class participates more actively because of Brian’s enthusiasm. His creativity and confidence in speaking and communication makes him an asset and leader in class. Congratulations to LWC Scholastic Bowl, your 2023 SWSC red division Champions. Congratulations to Scholastic Bowl sophomore Luke Friedl and senior Lucas Mullin who earned all-conference awards this season.

Lincoln-Way Central has once again renewed its pledge to help reduce, reuse, and recycle! Environmental Action Club has completed the required tasks in order to obtain the Will County Earth Kids' Pledge Badge for the 2022-23 school year. In order to be a member, the school is required to attend a presentation run by a Will County educator, recycle at least 2 materials at school, create an outdoor learning space, and a few other environmentally friendly tasks. LWC's Environmental Action has been a member of this pledge program for over 7 years now.

On Thursday, January 12, Lincoln-Way Central counselors presented the Course Selection Process to our Freshmen, Sophomores and Juniors. LWC Winter Knight Olympics is here! Teams of 8 will compete in a series of competitions to prove who is the best. Packets are avalible outside Mr. Waddell's office (D123). The competition is Wednesday, Feb 1st, from 6-9 pm in the Fieldhouse. Packets are due by 1/27/23.

As Americans, we have set aside November 11th, Veterans Day, to reflect, honor, and remember those who have served in the United States Armed Forces. At this moment, men and women of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, and Coast Guard are serving around the world. Let’s honor and acknowledge members of our current Knight family who have served our country: Lt. Col. Tsoukatos – United States Air Force 1997 – 2017, Master Sgt. Schliffka – United States Air Force 1982 - 2003, Mr. Balluff – United States Army – 1999 – 2005, Mr. Knoblauch – United States Marine 2000 – 2004, Mick Noe- United States Army - 1983-1986

All interested freshman and sophomore students are invited to attend before and after school study strategy presentations, hosted by our Reading department. These sessions will occur before school at 7:30 am and after at 3 p.m. on November 29th and December 6th. Sign up not necessary.

On Wednesday, November 16th at 6:30 p.m., in the Charles R. Stark Center for Performing Arts Center, our Lincoln-Way Central academic leaders will present expectations and strategies for success on upcoming final exams. We encourage parents and freshman students to come to the presentation to learn how to best help them navigate their first final exams.

Beginning today, Lincoln-Way High School District 210 will be joining many schools nationwide in The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Pennies for Patients program. Since 2006, Lincoln-Way students have made significant donations to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society at the end of October. The Pennies for Patients collection will look different this year as we have a link for each school that will be open now through November 23. All donations are appreciated and are tax-deductible. Your support empowers The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society to achieve its goal to cure blood cancer and provide support to patients and their families. Please join us tomorrow morning and every Wednesday for Mindful Mornings. We meet on Wednesdays before zero hour (6:50am – 7:10pm) in E212 and before first hour (7:45am-8:05am) in E208. The goal of each meeting is to support students and staff at LWC by practicing mindfulness, being present, and developing a set of tools that help manage everyday life. Typically, when you ask a student how they spent their summer, they talk about spending time with friends, working, summer school or vacations. Ask Brent Kowalczyk that question and the answer is very impressive! He joined the National Guard! He attended Basic Training for 10 weeks and will devote one weekend a month continuing his training. Brent is mature beyond his years and really cares about his future. He has wanted to serve his country since 7th grade. He speaks of a strong sense of duty, honor and comradery. He is well on his way to fulfilling his goals. He plans on attending an Illinois public college, which will be paid for by being in the Guard, and study psychology and possibly law. He also plans to be in ROTC at the college level which allows him to graduate and enter active duty as an officer. He indicated, “this was the best decision of my life, which changed me physically and mentally”. He also said that he gained life skills that he now applies to his education and personal life in terms of his drive and dedication. We are very proud of your accomplishments thus far, Brent!
