As the #HSActivitiesMonth winds down, we are highlighting Mr. Render!  Mr. Render currently teaches AP US History and History of World Wars, and he also coaches the freshman girls basketball team and the freshman baseball team.  In addition, Mr. Render has been the public address announcer for Lincoln-Way West since we opened in the fall of 2009.  We would like to thank Mr. Render as he has been an integral part of Lincoln-Way West since the beginning.   Sponsor Spotlight with Mr. Render 🎤   You have been referred to as “The Voice of the Warriors.”  What do you enjoy most about your role announcing various events at Lincoln-Way West?   I get to see our students outside of class doing the things they love when I call their games, assemblies, and so forth.  It has also allowed me to form relationships beyond my personal students and athletes.  It's fun to see a kid in the halls and get a "hello" or even have a conversation about their games- even though we've never worked in class together.  I'm also a high-energy person, so getting to be loud and contribute to a raucous and fun atmosphere at events is right in line with my personality.       How did you get started announcing?   It really was random and kind of an accident.  A Spanish teacher at Central and the football announcer- was gone for one of the football games.  I just happened to be in the athletic office signing a contract to coach baseball and the AD at the time asked me- "Hey, how about you?  Can you announce the football game this Friday?"  I said I could give it a try to help out.  I was asked back when there were openings for football and basketball.  The following year, I was asked to help out with pep assemblies.  When West was getting ready to open, Dr. Schmitt asked if I'd take on football, basketball, assemblies, and so forth.  I said yes, and it's really been a blast calling games ever since.     In no particular order, what would be your top three memories from when you’ve been announcing an event?   In no particular order. . . . 🔸 2015- Football playing Peoria in the quarterfinal game here at home.  We won by a huge margin in front of a huge crowd.   That was a special season.   I remember the end "Pack your bags Warrior Nation!  We're headed south to Champaign!" 🔸 The first Homecoming Olympics we had at West.  The numbers of kids, faculty members, coaches. . . . it felt like everyone was here.  And the noise and excitement was awesome- just great to be a part of.  You could tell from that moment that West was beginning something really fantastic that year. 🔸 Singlets on the Stage vs. LWC.  I had never called a wrestling match before- let alone doing it in a live play by play format.  Coach Glynn asked me if I could do it, and I told him absolutely. I just needed to do a little homework and learn the terminology.  That was a unique and very cool event on the stage with all the music, the lights, and of course, a top Wrestling team in the state.
