Read for a Lifetime
Read for a Lifetime
Every year, students in Mrs. Valkema’s Freshman Seminar classes write a letter to the author about the book they have chosen for Sustained Silent Reading. These letters are then entered in to the ‘Illinois Center for the Book, Letters for Literature.’ The contest is sponsored by the Illinois Center for the Book – an affiliate of the Library of Congress, The Illinois State Library, and the Illinois Secretary of State whose duties include Illinois Librarian.  The focus for the letters is ‘How did the author’s work change your view of the world or yourself’.   We are proud to announce that fifty-two of our students received the recognition of Honorable Mention or Semi-Finalist. A special congratulations to two additional students, Addy Griffith and Evert Alvarado, who were chosen as Finalists!
